From the early days of the Brand Safety Alliance, response to our mission from registries, registrars and brands in the Asia Pacific region has been strong. Many registries have chosen to participate in GlobalBlock and are recognizing the benefits of stronger brand and IP defenses in improving registry health and protecting internet users by proactively stopping abuse before it occurs.

In the coming months, our commitment to this community ramps up through several events in partnership with the Asia Pacific Top-Level Domain Association (APTLD).

The BSA’s Leona Chen-Birkner will present a webinar to APTLD members, before giving a presentation at the upcoming APTLD90 meeting in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in September.

The webinar will explore:

  • The increasing threat of domain abuse, particularly in the Asia Pacific region
  • An overview of the BSA and GlobalBlock
  • How proactive domain blocking supports DNS abuse mitigation
  • How this model can fit within ccTLDs’ policy, technical and community goals

At ATLD90, Leona will also join ccTLD and registrar leaders on a panel ‘Growth, Risk, and Reinvention: Inside ccTLD and Registrar Operations.’ The group will discuss how organizations are driving sustainable growth, managing key risks, and reinventing their models to stay relevant.

With 13 registries from Asia Pacific already a part of GlobalBlock, this is a great opportunity to continue strengthening the security and integrity of the regional domain landscape.

Asia Pacific ccTLDs Recognize Value of BSA Partnerships

Several APTLD members are already a part of GlobalBlock. These include major ccTLDs and registries operating local-language and regional domain extensions.

Overwhelmingly, registries find benefit in the ability to shift from reactive dispute handling to proactive abuse prevention.

Ankhzaya Ts., Technology Director for Mongolia’s .MN Registry said, “GlobalBlock has significantly reduced the risk of abusive and infringing domain registrations, helping us prevent potential trademark conflicts before they occur.

“This proactive protection not only saves our team considerable time and administrative effort in handling domain disputes but also allows us to focus on developing mail projects instead of resolving avoidable conflicts.

“It has become an effective tool for protecting rights holders while preserving the openness and accessibility that make the .MN namespace attractive to both global brands and internet users in Mongolia."

Similarly, Prof. Gihan Dias, Director, CEO, Domain Registrar at LK Domain Registry said, “GlobalBlock aligns with our commitment to protect the long-term integrity of the .lk namespace for our local stakeholders. Its proactive approach to brand protection supports our governance framework, helps reduce abusive registrations, and reinforces trust in .lk as the digital identity of Sri Lanka's businesses and communities."

The operational simplicity is another common benefit cited by registries. Bill Tomon, Manager ICT Services of Papua New Guinea’s .PG Registry said, “partnering with the Brand Safety Alliance and GlobalBlock has created a new sustainable source of revenue for the .PG Registry without adding operational complexity.

“Beyond the benefits of reducing abuse, the funds generated help us invest in registry infrastructure, security initiatives and service improvements, ensuring long-term value for our local internet community."

Earlier this year, the world's largest ccTLD, China’s .CN, partnered with GlobalBlock to support brand protection in the namespace. A significant influence in the Asia Pacific region as well as globally, you can read more about the BSA’s partnership with CNNIC in our Partner Spotlight article.

The Asia Pacific region represents one of the most dynamic and fast-growing parts of the global domain landscape, and the threat environment is evolving at the same pace. The registries already participating in GlobalBlock are demonstrating that proactive abuse prevention is not only achievable but operationally and commercially beneficial for registries of every size.

For APTLD members who want to learn more, Leona's webinar is the ideal starting point. It will cover the threat landscape in detail, walk through how GlobalBlock works in practice, and explore how the model can be tailored to fit within individual ccTLD policy frameworks and community goals.

If you are planning to attend APTLD90 in Ulaanbaatar, we hope to see you there. And if you would like to speak with our team ahead of either event, you can get in touch at hello [@] brandsafetyalliance.co.

A lot has changed across the registry landscape since my last trip to the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain (APTLD) conference over two years ago in Danang, Vietnam. From the increasing role that AI plays in our businesses through to the ever-expanding abuse conundrum, the threat landscape has shifted in ways that should concern every registry operator, regardless of size and region. I'm excited to reconnect with the APTLD community at two upcoming events. First, I'll be joining APTLD members for a webinar on 26 August, followed by a session at APTLD90 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia this September, where I'll be sharing how the Brand Safety Alliance and GlobalBlock are helping registries and brands tackle online abuse through collaborative global protection programs.

The 2026 International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) Annual Conference in Orlando brought together enterprise brands, law enforcement agencies, marketplaces, payment providers, policy leaders, registries, and technology platforms. The Brand Safety Alliance (BSA) was thrilled to sponsor the event for the first time, supporting the IACC Networking Lounge. This opportunity allowed us to connect with many IP and brand protection experts and to continue our IP Insights program – an ongoing series of conversations and interviews with the people at the coal front of online brand protection. The theme running through every session of the conference and reflected in our conversations was: how does enforcement keep pace as digital abuse becomes faster, more global, and more infrastructure-driven? Here are some key themes we captured from those in the know.
